Refractories: Fibre & Speciality Glass

DSF Frimul FX is specified for the melter crown in E-glass and speciality glass furnaces due to its high temperature creep resistance. In creep testing over 100 hours, a flat line was achieved at 1650°C. This product is 75% alumina and is fully converted to 95% crystalline mullite on high firing at DSF. DSF are one of the few refractory producers with the capability to fire its products to 1700°C making sure optimum mullite conversion is achieved. If crown temperatures are less than 1600°C, DSF Mullite ML31 is a cost-effective option. DSF Mullite ML31 is a unique high fired material containing 70% alumina, but converting to 97% crystalline mullite on firing giving stability and chemical resistance in service. DSF also manufactures DSF Frimax 7, a re-bonded fused magnesia-alumina spinel material. This material is completely resistant to alkali and has excellent high temperature creep resistance. It has been used in various melter applications in speciality glass tanks and can also be used in smaller oxy-fuel furnace crowns

In the melter superstructure of E-glass furnaces, DSF Frisil H is the standard recommendation. This is a high fired andalusite material, which on firing converts to approx. 90% crystalline mullite resulting in excellent chemical resistance to borosilicate glass atmospheres.

There is also a range of bonded AZS materials available. Chemcast CAZ20 has phenomenal thermal shock resistance and can be used as an alternative to chrome blocks in C-glass melters and for replacement burner blocks. DSF AZ20 and DSF AZ26 are pure alumina-zircon bricks with good corrosion resistance.

DSF supply back up materials for the melter including DSF CF40 cast subhearth bottom blocks with superior glass resistance, DSF Porolite 135 which is a high strength insulating material used in the bottom and sidewalls and DSF Composite 435, which is a combi-block for sidewall insulation.

In the feeders of fiberglass furnaces, DSF supply roof tiles and profiled roof blocks in a range of materials to suit operating conditions. Chemcast Frisil H has excellent creep resistance and good resistance to alkali vapour. In more arduous applications Chemcast Fused Mullite is used, a product with ultimate thermal shock and creep resistance.

Monolithic materials are available to complement the shaped refractory chemistries supplied.
