DSF manufactures a complete range of refractories for the hot face of tread and carcass reactors. We supply high purity alumina materials and magnesia-alumina spinel, both pressed and cast. Thermal shock resistant versions of both chemistries can also be supplied.

DSF manufactures two very pure alumina materials for carbon black reactors: DSF 99 is supplied for pressed arch bricks and DSF 99C for more complex or larger shapes. Both materials are fired to 1700°C and are used to withstand the reducing conditions and very high temperatures associated with this demanding process. DSF Mullite ML31 can be used as a backing layer, this is a high fired mullite brick. A range of insulation materials, both brick and castable, depending on the temperature profile can also be supplied.

DSF can produce complex, large and interlocking shapes by casting in DSF 99C. Traditional casting methods typically use cement or ethyl silicate, which limit the maximum operating temperature of the product, but DSF utilize a special no cement casting technology where only alumina is used to cast complex shapes. Thermal shock damage commonly limits the life of pure alumina brick in the quench section, DSF 99C has five times the thermal shock resistance of conventional pressed high alumina.

For even superior thermal shock resistance our alumina-zirconia composition is available as DSF 92Z pressed brick and DSF 92CZ cast shapes.

A magnesia-alumina spinel material, DSF Frimax 7, is also available for some reactor front face applications. This chemistry can potentially withstand higher operating temperatures than a conventional alumina lining. DSF manufacture both pressed and cast spinel materials, both high fired to 1700°C, but with a melting point of 2135°C. DSF Frimax 7 has performed well in the main barrel pre-choke and the cast version, DSF Frimax C, has been utilized in the choke section with great success. These products are suitable for low silica feedstocks <0.03% silica.
