DSF Refractories & Minerals Ltd

At DSF we pride ourselves as one of the largest employers in the heart of the Peak District. We employ about 150 people, many of which live in the local villages and towns. Over the 125 years we have seen many family generations spending their working lives at DSF through to retirement. This is reflected in our history of long service awards of 25, 40 and 50 years celebrations.

Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship

We are currently offering a Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship.

Purpose of the job

To undertake an apprenticeship as a mechanical engineering technician leading to a nationally recognised qualification and accreditation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To complete a programme of training to be conducted within the Engineering Department.
  • Carry out planned preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Attending breakdowns and carrying out repairs to equipment and machinery.
  • Carrying out repairs on pneumatics and hydraulics.
  • To become proficient in the application and use of a wide range of machinery and tools.
  • Fitting and assembly skills including the use of hand tools and marking out.
  • Welding, burning, fabrication, brazing, soldering and other jointing processes.
  • Sheet metalwork including shearing, folding etc.
  • Measurement and inspection techniques using a variety of metrology equipment.
  • Attendance at college by day release leading to recognised NVQ qualifications over a three year period.
  • Carrying out such tasks and duties as directed by your Team Leader which are calculated to contribute to the requisite levels of performance and competence.

Electrical Maintenance Apprenticeship

Job Description:

    Carry out electrical maintenance tasks and planned mainteance to ensure plant and processes operate effectively and safely under the close supervision of qualified electrical staff.

    Roles & Responsibilities:

    • In-house and external training provided.
    • Working closely with experienced electricians.
    • Installing, maintaining and repairing equipment.
    • Working with electrical components of varying sizes
    • Industrial environment.

    Candidate Specification:

    • Take full responsibility for their training and college courses
    • High degree of dexterity and a willingness to learn
    • Enthusiastic with a natural interest and aptitude in electrics
    • NVQ Level 1, 2 or 3/BTEC in Electrical - desirable
    • Own transport essential due to location
    • Reliable with strong work ethics

Maintenance Electrician

Job Description:

We are currently looking to recruit an Electrician to work as part of the electrical team to ensure that all electrical plant equipment is operating efficiently with the minimum amount of downtime and kept in safe and in good condition.

Job Requirements:

  • Install and or maintain all electrical & electro-mechanical plant or machinery.
  • Operate a preventative electrical maintenance system to ensure that the plant & machinery is in good working order.
  • Industrial control systems.
  • Fault find and repair any electrical or electro-mechanical related problems on the plant or equipment..
  • PLC control systems (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi)
  • Variable speed drives
  • Machine safety control and risk assessments
  • High voltage switching and low voltage distribution systems.
  • Inspection and testing

Person Specification:

  • Apprentice trained electrician with C&G/BTEC/NVQ Level 3 qualification
  • 17th Edition wiring regulations - essential
  • Experience of working in Quality Management System.
  • ONC in Electrical Engineering/C&G 2391 Ins/Test - desirableellent interpersonal, relationship building and team working skills.
  • Sound fault finding and problem solving techniques
  • Previous experience of working in a heavy industry
  • Ability to test single and three phase motors
