04 Jun 2012 DSF Take Gold at the Annual IRE Golf Day
For the first time since its inception, DSF submitted a four ball team to compete in the long established IRE (Sheffield Branch) Golf Day.
Liam Sinnott (scratch), Richard Taylor (4), Jamie Niblock (9) and Steve Wainwright (12) played 27 holes in blistering heat competing for fives awards in total.
The competition is played according to Stableford rules ¾ handicap, which tends to favour the higher handicap players, so they were really up against it.
Awards available were; most points for the morning 9 holes, most points for the afternoon 18 holes, nearest the pin, longest drive and the Mick Wright cup which goes to the highest number of points amassed over a random selection of holes.
Richard won the morning session with 19 points and Liam was nearest the pin by 8” (yes we did measure it).
Although Jamie played extremely well with 36 points attained in the afternoon, he was just short of the winning total of 40 points.
The awards are naturally the property of the individual for the next 12 months; however both Richard and Liam have kindly donated them to DSF and they are currently displayed in the boardroom.
