The opening was to celebrate the completion of the initial phase of investment in our Chinese subsidiary, to welcome our Chinese staff into the DSF family and to thank all the people in Tianjin and TEDA that have helped us set up the company.
It was also an opportunity for all the UK Directors to visit the factory and to meet with the staff and invited guests.
William Yang and Eileen Wang introduced the guests, then DSF Managing Director Neale Parkin gave a short presentation, showing historic and modern photographs of DSF in the UK, and spoke a little about the company's history that goes back to 1892. He also explained about the determination of DSF to continue to grow and showed some of the the current investment taking place that has continued even in the current economic conditions.
DSF Tianjin General Manager David Collinge then thanked all the people that had helped in setting up the business including the TEDA authorities, our legal team at Winners, the team at HSBC in TEDA and the local tax authorities. He also thanked our friends at Allied Minerals in TEDA for their help and advice. David then gave a short speech in Chinese, that included a promise that he would be fluent in the language by the time DSF opened their second factory in China.
The ceremonial ribbon was cut by Zhang Qing Yun; section chief in the relevent TEDA tax department, David Collinge and Neale Parkin, and as the ribbon was cut there was an explosion of noise as indoor and outdoor fireworks were set off simultaneously and the podium was showered in coloured streamers. Following the ceremony there was a factory tour, as our guests were shown the mixing and casting area, the kiln and the grinding equipment.
Everyone then went for a celebratory banquet to toast the future success of the business.
