25 Nov 2008 DSF visits Bosai Minerals Group Guyana
Since the early 1980's DSF has regularly visited Guyana, with the change in ownership in 2007 it was again appropriate to visit the production facilities at Linden.

The main visit on the 4th November included a full tour of the raw bauxite crushing plant, the raw bauxite washing and blending areas and No.13 and No.14 Kiln. As part of the tour we also viewed the ship loading facilities and the finished product storage, both of which are adjacent to the Demerara River. Following the plant tour a visit was made to three of the bauxite mines currently being worked. In the mines we witnessed the stripping of the overburden and the extraction of the raw bauxite ready for transportation to the calcination plant.

On the 5th November a meeting was held in Georgetown with Mr Sam Hinds, Prime Minister of Guyana. Mr Hinds previously worked in the Guyanan bauxite industry at Linden and has previously visited DSF. The discussion with the Prime Minister covered many topics including the future plans for the development of an alumina production facility near Linden.

Guyanan RASC bauxite has been used by DSF Refractories & Minerals for more than 40 years. This material has been important for DSF to manufacture a wide range of high alumina refractory bricks and monolithics. In addition we have a large number of minerals customers who use this material for refractories, road surfacing and welding fluxes.
We extend our thanks to Steven Ma at BOSAI Minerals Group Guyana who looked after the party during their time in Guyana. We must also thank Hill & Hill Ltd and Possehl Erzkontor GmbH who also helped organise the visit earlier this month.
